graduationgraduation

The graduation ceremony commenced with a beautiful procession by the final year students on the attraction lane. As they were proceeding, there was a range of expressions on their faces. As some were smiling radiantly, others dabbing their eyes with their handkerchiefs as tears were trailing down their cheeks. There was a little dance twist to the procession which made it lovely. It was easily seen that they were having fun, singing the words of a popular departure song in Wesley girls ‘’One more step along the world you go”.

Parents, guardians and family members were eagerly peering into the procession to see if they could catch a glimpse of their ward on this special day and capture the image in their hearts forever.

Form masters and Mistresses of the various final year classes also processed behind them in their academic gowns. Class by class, they were called and their certificates were handed over to them, with a few words from their form masters or form mistresses. Some classes were described as “world changers and nation builders “others as “the masterminds behind the success of the future”. It was quite an emotional and happy time with words from them.

It was quite a short ceremony ending with a few words of wisdom from the Headmistress Mrs. Betty Djokoto. Afterwards girls were seen looking for their parents and friends to say their last goodbyes, the saddest part of the ceremony as many girls were seen crying and grieving the departure from friends probably.

Parents were seen looking so happy for their wards and taking pictures. A sweet little boy handed his sister a bouquet of roses and daises. The day ended on a bitter sweet note. The expressions on the faces of the graduands could only read ‘Ebenezer-thus far the Lord has brought us’.

waec awards 2012

It has always been the dream of every boy or girl in the senior high school to not only get 8 A’s but be one of the most outstanding students of that year group. As the saying goes “All are called but few are chosen”. Nine in total were privileged to have their dream come true. These were the students out of the 2012 year group.

Wesley Girls’ High School had the honor of having the overall best candidate in the 2012 West African Senior School Certificate come from them. Three of our students received the 2012 West African School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at the national and international levels.

Miss Yeboah –Kordiah Yvette, who was the overall best student and schooled at Wesley Girls’ High School and is now reading medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, received $550, a certificate and plaque for her Alma Mata (WGHS). Also, six other students who attained distinctions at their various subjects of specialty received certificates, $250 and a plaque each for their Alma Mata. It must be noted that for the first time in the history of the awards that candidates who offered Agriculture, Visual Arts, Technical and Home Economics programmes satisfied the eligibility criterion. Two of such students who have made a mark in the history of academics are Miss Ewurama Smith-Quayson and Miss Belinda Ofori both from our beloved school who received an award for Home Economics and Visual Arts respectively.

The awards were presented during a ceremony conducted and sponsored by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Endowment fund. The Head of the National West African Examinations Council (WAFC), Very Sam Nii NMAi Ollenu said 530 students out of 174,385 candidates obtained grade A1’s. He described the results as a “huge improvement” and “unprecedented” as compared to 2011 where 84 candidates satisfied the eligibility criterio
